The PNV has indicated that it will examine "in depth" the new housing decrees that the Government is finalizing and that it plans to approve this Tuesday in the Council of Ministers, in order to determine the direction of its vote in the Permanent Deputation, the body that assumes the validation of these norms after the dissolution of the Cortes due to the early elections.
Last Friday, the Plenary of Congress rejected both the housing measures decree and the one that contemplated the automatic renewal of rental contracts. The first text fell due to the opposition of PP, Vox, and Junts, while the second was also defeated with the votes against from those same parties, in addition to the PNV and Coalición Canaria.
Sources from the PNV have indicated that the Executive has already contacted the party regarding these decrees, which will be approved this Tuesday in the Council of Ministers following the decision of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to bring forward the general elections.
Power balances in the Permanent Deputation
The early call for elections has resulted in the dissolution of the Cortes, so the validation of the decrees will now fall to the Permanent Deputation, where the sum of PP, Vox, and Junts does not surpass the leftist bloc.
This body is made up of 69 deputies from the different parliamentary groups and, unlike the Plenary, the alliance of PP, Vox, and Junts — the forces that opposed the first of the decrees — does not achieve an absolute majority.
Of those 69 seats, the bloc that supported the housing measures decree gathers 35 deputies, coming from PSOE, Sumar, Esquerra Republicana (ERC), Bildu, PNV, and Podemos, compared to the 34 representatives from PP, Vox, and Junts.
However, the second decree, related to the automatic renewal of rental contracts, would also not receive sufficient support in the Permanent Deputation, since the PNV also rejected it in the Plenary, thus adding up to 34 favorable votes against 35 against.
Conditions of the PNV: vulnerable and small property owners
The PNV has announced that in its weekly meeting this afternoon it will address the situation generated and will also analyze the texts that will be approved this Tuesday in the Council of Ministers.
The nationalist formation has emphasized that it faces these negotiations with a defined stance: "protection of vulnerable people and defense of the small property owner, under the principle of legal security."
Likewise, the Basque party has insisted that the decision on its support or rejection of the decrees will be adopted "when all the information is available for it and after a thorough analysis of the fine print of the text and its processing."
