The general secretaries of UGT, Pepe Álvarez, and CCOO, Unai Sordo, have called on the leftist forces to seal an agreement that allows for the articulation of the Frente Amplio ahead of the elections on November 29.

Both union leaders have disseminated an identical text on their social networks in which they emphasize that the "real concerns of the working class need the agreement of the Frente Amplio more than ever." "The country is waiting for you," they have stressed.

In that same message, they insisted that the country must "place housing, salaries, public services, or full employment at the center of the debate" in light of the "historic moment we are living in."

Last Tuesday, CCOO and UGT agreed to call a general strike of 24 hours for this autumn with the aim of demanding decent wages and ensuring access to decent housing, after the Congress of Deputies overturned the royal decree-laws on housing.

The statements from the union centers come as the Frente Amplio faces a key week to register electoral coalitions — the deadline before the Electoral Board ends on Friday, October 16 — without having yet designated its candidate for the Presidency of the Government or finalized alliances with other forces, especially regarding the possible incorporation of Podemos to its list.

So far, Más Madrid has proposed that its deputy spokesperson in the Assembly, Emilio Delgado, be the one to lead the candidacy for Madrid, while the republican spokesperson in Congress, Gabriel Rufián, has been proclaimed the candidate of ERC.

ERC, however, is finalizing a collaboration agreement with Podemos ahead of the general elections. Meanwhile, Izquierda Unida has expressed its support for the former mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, to head the candidacy.
