The PSOE spokesperson in Congress, Patxi López, has assured that the PP considers that Óscar Puente’s resignation is “a little play” because “it doesn’t fit in their heads” to offer “an example of dignity and political stature” like the one, in his opinion, the former minister has given. In his view, the conservatives are “incapable of taking responsibility”.
During the event presenting the candidacies of the Partido Socialista for Bizkaia for the upcoming general elections, a province in which he leads the list to Congress, López again stressed that the departure of the Transport minister up to now, Óscar Puente, following the Urda accident, makes “it clear that not all of us are the same”.
The former Basque lehendakari reproached that, after “everyone on the right had demanded the resignation, when he resigns, the barbarities that have been able to be said”. In his view, the PP’s shift in its discourse demonstrates its discomfort with Puente’s decision.
As he explained, if “everyone has concluded that this is a little play, that he had it agreed with Pedro Sánchez, that it is an electoral maneuver” it is because “it doesn’t fit in their heads that there could be a political leader with such dignity that assumes a responsibility even though he does not have direct responsibility for the accident, that gives an example of dignity and political stature that they have not given in their lives, and that he does it voluntarily”.
López emphasized that “it doesn’t fit in their heads because, otherwise, at some time some leader of the Partido Popular would have assumed his responsibility and would have resigned, for the Prestige, for the YAK 42, for the Angrois accident, for the Metro Valencia, for the Madrid residences, for the dana, not a single one”.
In his opinion, “that’s why they think it’s theater, because they wouldn’t know how to do it, because they have never done it”. In the PP, he concluded, “they are incapable of taking responsibility”.
