Vox has decided to withdraw its own lists for the Senate in six provinces and limit itself to registering a single candidate in another fourteen constituencies, with the aim of countering the agreement reached by the PSOE, Frente Amplio, and various territorial leftist forces, according to the party's communication.
In detail, Vox will not present its own candidacy in Las Palmas, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Cádiz, Valencia, Castellón, and Balearic Islands, while it will opt for a single candidate in Sevilla, Huelva, Asturias, Badajoz, Álava, Navarra, Cáceres, Huesca, Zaragoza, Alicante, Granada, Cuenca, Pontevedra, and Jaén. In the remaining twenty-three provinces, it will compete in the Upper House with its usual lists.
The party led by Santiago Abascal and the PP have maintained discreet contacts in recent weeks to articulate a joint strategy in the Senate that allows the 'popular' to retain an absolute majority and approach three-fifths of the seats, an essential threshold to decide key appointments in bodies such as the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ).
From the leadership of Vox, they emphasize that Vox and the PP "are very different political formations, with very different discourses," but they add that "it is no secret" that they share "the need to expel Pedro Sánchez's criminal organization from the institutions."
