The NGO Farmamundi has launched its urgent response protocol after the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that shook the western area of Colombia last Monday, and has launched a fundraising campaign aimed at the purchase and distribution of medicines and basic sanitary material.

This initiative also aims to reinforce healthcare for the affected people, working in coordination with health authorities and local organizations present on the ground.

For this purpose, the General Council of Pharmaceutical Colleges has sent a communication to all Pharmaceutical Colleges to request their collaboration and to join the campaign, disseminating all available information among the registered professionals.

"The goal is for the solidarity of the entire pharmaceutical profession to make a difference and allow for an increase in the reach of aid for this emergency situation," points out the General Council of Pharmaceutical Colleges.

From Farmamundi, they emphasize that, in contexts like this, solidarity aid must also be efficient. Financial contributions make it possible to accurately acquire the required medicines and supplies, at the right time and meeting international quality and safety standards.

For this reason, they discourage organizing drug collections or sending sanitary products on one's own, as these actions can complicate and hinder humanitarian logistics, delay the arrival of aid, and even pose risks to the affected population and the environment.
