A recent European investigation indicates that 81% of respondents are aware of the importance of protecting the skin beyond UV rays; however, only 22% resort to products specifically formulated to reinforce the skin barrier.

VIENNA, October 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- CeraVe, the skincare brand created alongside dermatologists and recommended by more than 80,000 specialists worldwide, has announced a new survey conducted with 6,000 adults from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, focused on how the population understands the skin barrier and responds to daily environmental aggressions.

The data highlights a clear gap between what is known and what is actually done. Although 90% of the consulted adults express concern about at least one environmental factor affecting their skin and 81% recognize the relevance of protection that goes beyond UV radiation, only 22% incorporate products aimed at strengthening the skin barrier into their routine.

Almost half (47%) believe that their skin has become more sensitive compared to five years ago and 50% report suffering from dryness associated with the environment or weather variations. Nevertheless, only 10% introduce extra steps in their care routine when pollution levels spike, and 55% believe that skincare should be simple, as otherwise they will abandon the routine.

The results were presented at the congress of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology held in Vienna, where CeraVe brought together dermatological, scientific, and brand voices to discuss the need for greater clarity in education about the skin barrier and the science that supports safe and effective skincare.

"People may experience dryness, tightness, or sensitivity without realizing that this may be related to the skin barrier. While awareness is important, having clear and reliable guidance is the fundamental factor," said Dr. Andrew Park, certified dermatologist. "That’s why I recommend CeraVe to my patients: products developed with dermatologists, formulated with three ceramides identical to those in the skin to help restore and maintain the skin barrier, and rigorously evaluated for safety and efficacy."

At CeraVe, safety and efficacy are integrated at all stages of product development: from identifying a specific skin health need to the formulation and evaluation phases. The final formulas undergo safety, efficacy, tolerability, and suitability studies, with the participation of scientific and medical experts, and all product claims are reviewed and validated by the safety, claims, and regulatory affairs teams.

"Research shows that people are paying more attention to their skin, but greater awareness also brings a greater need for clarity and trust," said Gene Colon, senior vice president of Global Medical Relations and Communication at CeraVe. "Our responsibility is to make skin health understandable and accessible, without ever compromising safety or efficacy. As the dialogue around skin becomes more complex, we want to offer people something simple: credible science, effective skincare, and the confidence to make informed decisions about their skin."
