The British maritime agency UKMTO, linked to the Navy and specialized in monitoring events in the Strait of Hormuz, has reported that a projectile has hit an oil tanker in this strategic maritime corridor without causing casualties.

The incident took place this Saturday afternoon about 12 nautical miles —22 kilometers— north of Jasab, in Oman, when the vessel "received the impact of a projectile identified as it was entering the Strait of Hormuz," according to the information released by UKMTO.

The British agency indicates that "no casualties or environmental damage have been reported so far," although it urges to "transit with caution and report any suspicious activity" directly to UKMTO. The competent authorities have opened an investigation to clarify what happened.

The Strait of Hormuz has established itself as a key enclave after Iran closed the passage to oil from the Persian Gulf in response to attacks from Israel and the United States.
