The Polish authorities reported this Wednesday the arrest in Warsaw of a Ukrainian citizen accused of having intervened in a sabotage against an armaments plant located in the Romanian city of Brasov in mid-September, an operation that would have been orchestrated by Russian intelligence services.

The Interior Minister of Poland, Marcin Kierwinski, explained that this Ukrainian citizen is under suspicion of having taken part in the fire registered at those facilities on September 14. As a result of these events, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Russian ambassador the previous day to ask for explanations.

The fire affected the facilities that the Romanian defense company Carfil has in Brasov, in the historical region of Transylvania, from where it mainly focuses on the production of military drones.

The Romanian Executive has held Russia responsible for this attack, for which two other suspects of Belarusian nationality had already been arrested in Germany. President Nicusor Dan has denounced that "for years" Moscow has tried to undermine European democracies through this type of hybrid warfare actions.

"All this are not isolated incidents, unrelated to each other, but rather form part of a premeditated and coordinated campaign," Dan stated, who warned that Russia uses social networks to recruit and manipulate the people who ultimately end up carrying out this type of illicit acts.
