The former candidate for the Presidency of Brazil, Flávio Bolsonaro, has backtracked on the way he initially presented himself to the public. If at the start of his address tonight, the first since his flight to the United States, he had defined himself as the "true elected president" of Brazil, he has now opted to describe himself simply as "leader" of the country.

Beyond this rectification in the headline of his message, Bolsonaro preserves in full the rest of the content of his original letter, in which he insists that he is the victim of a "witch hunt" supposedly driven by the current Brazilian president and winner of the election, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. In the same text he again maintains that there was an "electoral fraud" that, according to him, would have taken away his victory in the second round held last October 25.

The Brazilian politician has offered no reason whatsoever for why he has decided to modify the title of his self-proclamation. The change has taken place while one of his main international allies, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, was explaining to several American media outlets that he had no intention of "getting involved" in the Brazilian postelection process. Nevertheless, Trump acknowledged that he facilitated Bolsonaro's arrival on U.S. territory, specifically Miami, after elections that he described as "strange".
