The president of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriella, received this Tuesday in Barranquilla the president of Costa Rica, Laura Fernández, in what has become the first official visit abroad of the leader since she assumed the Head of State at the beginning of May of this year.
The meeting has been framed as an opportunity to promote the strengthening of bilateral relations and advance cooperation between both countries, focusing on shared challenges in security, economic development, and regional stability.
During the meeting, both leaders emphasized the historical ties that unite Caracas and San José, as well as the importance of transforming that closeness into concrete initiatives that allow for better conditions and opportunities for their populations.
The agenda also included the reinforcement of technical cooperation and security matters, within a strategy designed to face in a coordinated manner the challenges impacting both nations.
De la Espriella reiterated Colombia's willingness to work jointly with the Costa Rican Executive and emphasized the need to consolidate a safer and more prosperous region.
"President Fernández: thank you for choosing Colombia for this important visit. Costa Rica has a friend and an ally in our country," the Colombian president stated in a message disseminated on social media after the meeting.
In short, the meeting between De la Espriella and Fernández has been presented as a key moment to renew the bilateral alliance and advance in projects linked to economic growth, institutional strengthening, and democratic stability in the regional environment.
