Five people remain missing after the new floods recorded in Nepal, which have swept away several homes and bridges in the Gorja district.
According to the latest update released by the National Authority for Disaster Management and Reduction of Nepal, up to 47 people have been rescued after the rise of the Budhi Gandaki River, which has overflowed its banks dragging mud and debris throughout the affected area.
The most affected stretch by the overflow is located between the towns of Lokpa and Chumling, where the disappearance of two women and three men has been reported.
To address the emergency, the Army has launched an operation with four rescue helicopters and has evacuated 47 people from the most exposed areas. In total, 437 personnel have been mobilized, of which 127 belong to the Armed Forces and 133 to the Police, with the aim of addressing the emergency caused by the flooding.
Authorities have urged residents of the region to remain in areas designated as safe and not to use bridges or roads that may pose risks due to the rising waters.
On August 26, a flood at the border with China caused the death of more than 1,500 people and left more than 6,150 missing. In addition to the figures reported by the authorities of Nepal, there are 43 deceased and more than 500 people missing in Chinese territory. Furthermore, India has confirmed the discovery of at least three bodies on its side of the border, which may have been swept away by the current.
