The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran announced this Tuesday the capture in the Strait of Hormuz of one of the "most modern and intelligent" unmanned submarines of the United States Army, in a new episode of escalation between Washington and Tehran that in recent days has materialized in recent exchanges of attacks in the Middle East.
"The Navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has captured one of the most modern and intelligent unmanned submarines of the terrorist American army, at the entrance of the Strait of Hormuz," the military body stated in a statement collected by the news agency Tasnim, linked to it, in which it described the intelligence operation to achieve this as "complex."
According to the military statement itself, the device has the "most advanced technology in the field of submersibles," was delivered to the fleet of the American army "in 2025," measures around 5.8 meters in length, and its weight is around three tons.
According to the company Anduril, manufacturer of this model of autonomous submarine type Dive-LD, its structure is designed to independently execute long-duration missions in deep waters, with the capacity to remain submerged for up to ten days and reach depths of up to 6,000 meters.
The spokesman for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Sardar Mohamadi, also referred to this capture, emphasizing that "the most advanced unmanned submarine of the American army (...) will not be able to penetrate" the Iranian "layers of surveillance" in the Strait of Hormuz.
"The Persian Gulf belongs to our technological youth. Go back to the Bay of Pigs," Mohamadi added, evoking the failed landing of American troops in 1961 in that enclave in southwestern Cuba with the aim of overthrowing Fidel Castro.
At the same time, this Tuesday Tehran reported that its forces have shot down a drone in Bandar Abbas, the capital of Hormozgan province, in the coastal area of the Strait of Hormuz. According to the Iranian army, cited by the public radio and television IRIB, it would be a "MQ-1" type device that was hit by the air defense systems of the Islamic force and subsequently destroyed.
