Brad Lander, Democratic Party candidate in the midterm elections scheduled in the United States for next November 3, has assured this Wednesday that he was arrested by Israeli security forces while participating in an olive picking in the West Bank.
"I have been detained by the Israel Defense Forces along with a group of rabbis and volunteers. We were simply picking olives in an olive grove near Nehalim, in the West Bank," the candidate himself indicated in a message disseminated through social networks.
The politician has also emphasized that "the occupation is a crime under International Law." "Picking olives is not a crime under any law that I know of," he highlighted.
The detention occurred when Lander was accompanied by numerous activists who were carrying out actions in defense of Human Rights in the area. According to estimates, around 80 volunteers from the organization Rabbis for Human Rights would have been arrested.
The organization has explained in a statement that Israeli authorities informed them that the reason for the arrest was that they were "inside a closed military zone."
