The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has canceled an internal meeting of his party, Likud, citing "security reasons" just one day before the parliamentary elections, which are marked by a strong political crisis and a deep polarization in Israeli society.

The event, with which Netanyahu intended to encourage and coordinate Likud deputies ahead of the ballot, has been suspended shortly before the scheduled start time, according to information released by the Israeli channel Canal 12.

At the same time, the head of government maintains pressure to push for a new military offensive against Iran and has instructed the Israeli Armed Forces to activate an operation following the attack recorded last week near Hebron, in the West Bank. In that incident, two soldiers were killed and three others were injured, and it ended with two alleged attackers shot down by the Army.

Meanwhile, the opposition to Netanyahu emphasizes that in the elections this Tuesday, the very identity of Israel as a Jewish, democratic, and liberal state is at stake, in a context where the country is divided into two major blocks: on one side, those who support a nationalist and religious project and, on the other, those who defend the foundational values on which the State of Israel was created.
