At least one person has lost their life and eight others have been injured, one of them in critical condition, in a shooting that occurred this Saturday in Birmingham, in the state of Alabama (United States), after the celebration of an American football game. The Police have arrested a suspect for his possible involvement in the incident.

The shooting occurred shortly after 19:50 hours (local time) on the 400 block of Grayman Avenue West. Officers went there after receiving a report of gunshots and, upon arrival, located several people with gunshot wounds.

In a press briefing, officer Darrell Freeman detailed that emergency services counted a total of nine victims: one deceased person, another in critical condition, and seven more with injuries of varying severity but in stable condition. He also reported that several firearms were seized in the area, which have been sent to the evidence storage facility for analysis.

As for the progress of the investigation, Freeman confirmed that "a person has been detained and taken to the Birmingham police station for questioning". The officer emphasized that the investigation remains open and that the authorities continue collecting data and testimonies.

The shooting took place near Legion Field stadium, where that same morning the Magic City Classic American football game had been played. Police chief Michael Pickett specified —according to statements collected by ABC News— that the incident occurred once the game had ended and that "for the most part, it was outside the premises".
