The United Kingdom Commercial Maritime Operations Centre (UKMTO, by its initials in English), under the British Navy, reported this Thursday an "incident" recorded off the coast of Oman, in the area of the Strait of Hormuz, where a "burning" vessel has been located, without there being at present more concrete data on what happened.
In its note, the organization specified that the episode would have occurred about nine nautical miles—some 16.5 kilometers—north of the Omani town of Jasab, and detailed that "the captain of a vessel has reported having sighted another vessel on fire".
"The situation of the crew is unknown. At the moment, there is no damage assessment or a report on the environmental impact," stated UKMTO, which has urged ships transiting through the area to "navigate with caution" and to "report any suspicious activity" in the area.
