The Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor's Office of France requested this Thursday that the alleged perpetrator of the racist attack that last week caused one death and seven injuries in Trappes, a locality situated in the metropolitan area of Paris, be prosecuted for murder, an episode that the French authorities described as "very serious".

The prosecutor at the head of the specialized unit, Olivier Christen, has indicated that the accused, identified as Kevin T., must remain in provisional detention pending trial. He has also specified that he is scheduled to appear before a court throughout the day.

Christen has explained that Kevin T. recognized that his target was people of Muslim faith, as well as individuals of African and North African origin, and that he claimed not to feel remorse for what happened. Likewise, he stated that, in his opinion, Trappes has become a "refuge for Islamists", according to information from the newspaper "Le Figaro".

The Prosecutor's Office has underlined that the accusation must also include terrorism charges, considering it an aggravating circumstance that the victims were people of a specific "nationality or specific religion".

During the search of the suspect's belongings, investigators found a copy of the Quran, a Bible and a copy of "Mein Kampf", by Adolf Hitler, in addition to stickers with slogans such as "Long live France" or "National Rally", the party of the far-right leader Marine Le Pen.

According to reports from various French media outlets, the man was traveling in a vehicle when he opened fire in the middle of a public road in Trappes against a group of pedestrians.
