The Houthis indicated this Tuesday that they have managed to stop "an advance of Saudi enemy reinforcements" in the vicinity of the Bab el Mandeb strait, in the southwest of Yemen, in the context of the clashes with the internationally recognized government forces, supported by the military coalition led by Riyadh.
The spokesman for the military operations of the rebel movement, Yahya Sari, pointed out in a statement disseminated on social media that the group has fired ballistic missiles and has used "heavy weaponry" to halt this "advance," emphasizing that the offensive would have caused "numerous casualties."
In the same message, the representative of the Houthis claimed responsibility for attacks carried out in recent hours against two military transport planes in Najran and Khamis Mushait, as well as targeted strikes against the headquarters of the Saudi Ministry of Defense in Riyadh and against the Ras Tanura refinery, without Saudi authorities having offered an official version of what happened so far.
The Houthi movement, which launched a large-scale offensive in western Yemen on September 3, has carried out multiple missile and drone attacks against Saudi territory, in response to the support of the international coalition led by Riyadh for the military operations of the Yemeni authorities recognized by the international community.
For their part, the forces loyal to the internationally recognized Yemeni government announced on October 4 the start of a large-scale offensive to recover the areas recently taken by the Houthis and to try to advance towards the capital, Sana'a, controlled by the rebels since 2014.
