The Royal House of Norway has reported that the health status of King Harald V, 89 years old, has recorded a "deterioration" over the weekend, although it emphasized in a brief note that the monarch remains hospitalized in "stable" condition.
"The state of His Majesty the King has worsened over the weekend," the institution indicated, before specifying that Harald V "is receiving antibiotics for a bacterial infection in the bloodstream and has responded to the treatment."
At the same time, the statement underscores that "the situation is stable" and emphasizes that the head of the Norwegian State "will remain at the Oslo University Hospital, Rikshospitalet, and is still on sick leave until further notice," so his official agenda remains suspended.
The monarch, who has occupied the throne since 1991, was transferred to the hospital on August 17 due to fluid retention detected after a medical examination related to the treatment he has been receiving for weeks for hemolytic anemia, as detailed by the Royal House itself at that time.
During this new convalescence, Crown Prince Haakon is performing the functions of regent, as occurred between late February and early March, when the king had to be hospitalized for a skin infection in a leg that led to his hospitalization at the University Hospital of Santa Cruz de Tenerife while enjoying a vacation with his wife, Sonia of Norway.
