The authorities of the United States have decided to grant visas to the former Brazilian presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro and his family, who this Tuesday have embarked on a journey to the North American country. The trip coincides with the decision of the Brazilian Police to annul the passports of the Liberal Party candidate and with the order from the Supreme Court to investigate him for alleged foreign funding of his electoral campaign.

A spokesperson for the State Department has indicated to Europa Press that the institution led by Marco Rubio "will issue visas to Flávio Bolsonaro and his family and will allow them to enter the United States."

The deputy of the Liberal Party Mauricio Marcon has stated that Bolsonaro "has taken a flight and is heading to seek asylum in the United States" in a video shared on his social media, in which he equates the situation of the far-right leader with that of the Venezuelan opposition figure María Corina Machado.

"Just like María Corina Machado when she fled the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela, Flávio Bolsonaro, the defeated candidate in the elections, is also seeking asylum in another country," he has stated.

Flávio Bolsonaro has flown to the United States, where his brother Eduardo Bolsonaro lives, despite the four-year prison sentence handed down by Brazilian Justice for coercion of justice in the case regarding the attempted coup against his father, Jair Bolsonaro.

Once on U.S. territory, the former presidential candidate "will denounce the regime imposed by Lula, Xandão --referring to the Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes-- and all that group against the Brazilian people," the deputy added.

According to "allies" of the former candidate, cited anonymously by the newspaper 'Folha', Flávio Bolsonaro departed from the Argentine city of Puerto Iguazú heading to the United States following a plan organized by one of his lawyers.

The Brazilian Police have proceeded to invalidate the politician's passports, as they were not delivered within the established deadline, and have begun to track his whereabouts.

In parallel, the Supreme Court has instructed the Federal Police to open an investigation into the possible foreign funding of his campaign and into the alleged manipulation of the algorithm on social media to promote his content above that of other candidates.
