The Houthi rebel authorities of Yemen reported early this Tuesday the death of three civilians, including two children, and injuries to another adult and a minor, following a series of bombings against several homes and a bridge in the governorate of Taiz, in the southwest of the country, attacks that have been attributed to the military coalition led by Saudi Arabia.
According to the version disseminated by the Houthis, the attacks would have targeted civilian objectives in different points of this Yemeni governorate, in a new episode of the air offensive that the coalition maintains in support of the internationally recognized government.
"Coalition fighter jets led by Saudi Arabia committed a new crime against the population of the governorate of Taiz by launching several airstrikes directly against civilian infrastructure," declared on social media the spokesperson for the Houthi Health Ministry, Anis Alasbahi.
In his statement, Alasbahi detailed a "deliberate bombing of civilian homes" in the district of Dhubab —located on the coastal strip, south of the city of Mocha, recently taken by the Houthis— where one civilian has lost his life and another has been seriously injured.
The Health spokesperson added that coalition forces would have carried out "several airstrikes" against the Al Barh bridge, in the Maqbanah area —in the interior of the governorate, closer to the city of Taiz— which "have resulted in the death of two children and serious injuries to a third."
"This raises the total number of civilian fatalities from these crimes to three, including two children, and the number of injured to two, which constitutes a flagrant violation of international and humanitarian laws that prohibit attacking civilians and civilian infrastructure," denounced Alasbahi, holding the coalition responsible for what happened.
These bombings occur in a context of a strong resurgence of violence between the Houthi militias and the coalition led by Riyadh, which fights alongside Yemeni forces loyal to the government recognized by the international community. The escalation has intensified following the recent offensive with which the rebels have managed to advance from interior areas to the coast of the Red Sea and the vicinity of the strategic Bab el Mandeb strait.
