The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has distanced himself from the words of Flávio Bolsonaro, who this Wednesday proclaimed himself "president-elect" of Brazil and, later, corrected himself to define himself only as "leader" of the country, although he has insisted that the former candidate has been the object of an "unfair" treatment.
Trump, asked by journalists, has avoided getting involved in the controversy. "I am not going to make any comment on the matter. I am not going to get into that," he stated before the media, while he opined that the elections in which Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva achieved re-election were "very strange". "That is clear," he added.
The current tenant of the White House, who has assured that he has not had any conversation during the day with the Brazilian senator, has ratified that he authorized the entry of Bolsonaro and his relatives into US territory, as well as the granting of the corresponding visas, underscoring that "they were treated very unfairly".
"I did not take sides in the elections, but when I see something that seems inappropriate to me, I point it out," the president maintained when justifying his assessments of the Brazilian electoral process.
In his letter, both in the initial version and in the corrected one, Bolsonaro has presented himself as a victim of a "witch hunt" led by Lula and has reiterated the existence of an alleged "electoral fraud" that, according to him, snatched victory from him in the second round held last October 25.
The former candidate, who arrived in the United States after making a stopover in Argentina and Ecuador, has expressed his gratitude for the support received from Trump and from the Argentine president, Javier Milei.
