The United States Army has described this Monday as "false" the claims spread by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard about a fire on a "super tanker" after the supposed impact with two mines on the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz, an area where Washington maintains a significant military presence with the aim of ensuring the transit of vessels through this strategic enclave.

"No ship has collided with mines in the Strait of Hormuz. This is another attempt by the Revolutionary Guard to intimidate regional commercial transport through misinformation," stated the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) in a message published on social media, in which it insists that these facts are "false."

For its part, the Navy of the Revolutionary Guard had assured during the early morning, in a statement released by the Tasnim news agency, that the vessel had become "completely immobilized" after catching fire due to the impact of two naval mines while "transiting the illegal route south of the Strait of Hormuz."

"The fate of vessels that violate the safety rules of the Strait of Hormuz will not be different," it warned, referring to the rules set by Tehran for passage through the Strait of Hormuz, whose official route runs through the north of this corridor of great relevance for global crude oil trade.

Iran has repeatedly shown its opposition to the use of the southern corridor for maritime traffic. In fact, last Tuesday, when announcing a principle of understanding with Oman regarding the management of traffic in this strategic passage, Tehran stated that the agreement includes the closure of this route, which the United States claims to monitor and control along with its regional partners.
