ERC has censured this Monday the performance of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, during the Ceuta crisis, reproaching him that "he has not done well" in the first person, that he has been "absent" and not "sufficiently present" and that his reading of what happened, in light of the seriousness of the situation, "has not been adequate".
These criticisms were made by the deputy Francesc-Marc Álvaro in the extraordinary session of the Defense Commission of Congress, in which the minister Margarita Robles appeared to give explanations about the Ceuta crisis. "I would say that President Sánchez has not done well himself, personally. He has been absent, he has not been sufficiently present," Álvaro pointed out, who also noted that the head of the Executive has carried out "things that perhaps should not have been done, given the context".
The discomfort with Sánchez had already been expressed by other government partners, such as the federal coordinator of IU, Antonio Maíllo, and the deputy of Compromís, Alberto Ibáñez, who reproached him for continuing on vacation while the migration crisis in Ceuta remained open. "It makes no sense," emphasized the deputy of Sumar.
The images do not replace the lack of management
In the Defense Commission, the republican spokesperson also warned that, although some political advisors act as if we were living in the era of "the narrative, storytelling, and narrative," in the end "policies are facts" and a certain narrative can lead to "a disastrous ending."
As an example, he pointed out that the Government can send numerous ministers to Ceuta, but that "the narrative of the photo of one of them with the mayor of the city does not cover the deficits of management." In his opinion, "that the Government does things, but in reality does not do them, even though there are ministers who visit the place, ends up having a worse impact because it generates cognitive dissonance in the face of a void. What does the Government do? Well, we do not really know."
In his second turn of speech, Álvaro clarified that his reproaches to the "narrative" were not directed exclusively at Robles, but to the entire Executive, insisting that it "has not gone hand in hand with the facts." In this line, he supported the thesis expressed by other spokespersons that the interpretation offered by the Government and, in particular, by Sánchez "has not been adequate given the magnitude of the facts."
Nevertheless, the ERC deputy has valued that Robles has admitted that "something has not been done well," something he has considered "not usual" in a minister and that "honors him." In addition, he has expressed his desire that the rest of the members of the Government who will appear this week follow that same path and has emphasized as a "central" issue for the future the work circuit of the Intelligence services.
