The president of the EBB of the PNV, Aitor Esteban, has acknowledged feeling "somewhat concerned" about the arrest last Saturday of two people in Irun (Gipuzkoa) accused of alleged terrorism. The jeltzale leader has pointed out that he is waiting for "the incident to be clarified," since, as he indicated, "it seems they had material possibly related to violent activities."

In an interview granted to "RNE," reported by Europa Press, he pointed out that "there can always be some group of nostalgics" and has called for a detailed analysis of what happened. "Of course, we also have to take a close and detailed look at what has happened. I imagine that in the coming days more details will emerge," he explained.

At the same time, the president of the PNV has valued that 15 years without ETA terrorism have been fulfilled, although he admitted that in certain areas of Euskadi "social pressure tics" are still present and that there are wounds that are not "healed."

Social tics after the end of violence

Esteban has emphasized that, currently, there is a scenario of the end of violence and that "we must celebrate and be happy for having left that violent stage behind," despite the fact that "some flare-ups" are still observed. In his opinion, these behaviors should be limited to "gestures of some nostalgic, but which are also concerning."

The jeltzale leader has recalled that there were times when murders, extortions, and "absolutely agitated streets" were recorded daily, a reality that, he emphasized, "fortunately, all that is behind us." However, he reiterated that, although certain "tics of social pressure" still remain in some areas of Euskadi, "fortunately no violence."
