The president of the Partido Popular, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, will hold this Friday at 11:30 a.m. a meeting at the party’s national headquarters in Madrid with a group of experts in infrastructure and railway services.
According to a statement issued by the PP, the leader of the conservatives will be accompanied by the deputy secretary of Sectorial, Alma Ezcurra, and by the deputy secretary of Finance, Housing and Infrastructure, Juan Bravo, who will also take part in the meeting.
The appointment with the railway specialists comes just two days after the train accident recorded in Urda (Toledo), where this Wednesday an AVE from Renfe ran into an Iryo train stopped on the track after a failure of the LZB system, causing the death of at least 69 people.
This Thursday, from the Plaza del Ayuntamiento in Urda (Toledo) and after touring the advanced command post set up by the accident, Feijóo has defended that the political responsibilities arising from the incident are "demandable" and "essential".
In this line, he has stressed that one should not wait for the conclusion of the ongoing investigation. Thus, he has pointed to the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, after "more than one hundred dead" in two accidents on the same railway corridor, although without explicitly calling for his resignation.
"I have said that political responsibilities cannot wait for an investigation, whether administrative or judicial. Political responsibilities are not optional, they are demandable, ethically and morally", he asserted, also recalling the Government’s precedents after the Adamuz (Córdoba) accident last January or the blackout in April 2025.
