The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, announced on Monday night that green light has been given for the return to their homes of the residents of nine of the eleven municipalities in the province of Toledo that were evacuated due to the wildfires that remain active in the area.
The towns for which resettlement is authorized are Buenaventura, Navamorcuende, Real de San Vicente, Hinojosa de San Vicente, Castillo de Bayuela, Garciotum, Nuñogómez, Pelahustán, and Almendral de la Cañada. For the moment, evacuation will continue in La Iglesuela and Sartajada, where the situation still requires maintaining precautionary measures.
The Interior Minister provided these details in statements to the media after the meeting of the State Coordination and Direction Committee of the State Emergency Plan (CECOD), held at the Advanced Command Post (PMA) in Navalcarnero (Madrid). For Marlaska, this decision constitutes "hopeful" news.
The minister added that the operational direction is evaluating lowering the level of emergency in Toledo to operational system 2 and "coming out of the national interest emergency." "The decision will be made in the coming hours regarding this and with the same terms of safety and necessary operability," he specified.
During the afternoon of Monday, the perimeter of the wildfire affecting the municipal term of Almorox in Toledo, the Sierra Oeste of Madrid, and Burgohondo (Ávila) was stabilized in the Castilla-La Mancha sector, according to the Regional Government's Forest Fire Prevention and Extinction Service communicated through "X".
