The general secretary of PSOE-A, María Jesús Montero, has demanded explanations from the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, as well as from the national leadership of the PP, for what she considers an attitude of "looking the other way" in the face of the alleged sexual assaults attributed to the mayor of Algeciras (Cádiz), José Ignacio Landaluce.

In a message disseminated this Sunday on her official profile on the social network X, Montero has recalled that "Moreno Bonilla knew. Feijóo's team did too. For two years, the PP received alerts and warnings about what was happening with the mayor of Algeciras, José Ignacio Landaluce, pointed out for alleged sexual assaults. From the PSOE we denounced it and the PP denied it to us, despite the fact that it was already an evident truth as indicated by all the messages and testimonies, which warned of what was happening. They knew and they covered it up."

The socialist leader has insisted that, during that period, "Landaluce has continued to have the support of his party." She then posed several questions directed at the PP: "How much longer did they plan to ignore what was happening? And there are even more serious questions to answer: Has public money been used to buy silence? Who authorized it and who knew about it?".

Montero has emphasized that, in her opinion, the popular leadership chose not to act despite the warnings received and has lamented the consequences that, she said, this would have had for the complainants. "What is clear is that they chose to look the other way, even at the cost of leaving the women who had reported unprotected," she concluded.
