The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, has taken advantage of this Wednesday, Ceuta Day, to convey his "support, affection, and confidence" to the "sister city," of which he emphasized that "we feel deeply proud of what you are doing, restoring dignity to Ceuta and to all of Spain."
In a message disseminated on the social network X and collected by Europa Press, in which he appears with a Ceuta flag, Moreno has stressed that from Brussels, within the framework of the Committee of the Regions and Cities of Europe, he is committed to defending that the "serious problem" that Ceuta has been dragging since the end of July, when thousands of immigrants crossed the border, is addressed.
"The cause of Ceuta is the cause of Andalucía and that of all of Spain," the Andalusian leader has emphasized, reiterating his determination to "bring the voice of a sister land to the heart of Europe." "Together we defend the recovery of normality," Moreno added, in a message of support to "all the caballas."
Moreno is scheduled to participate this Wednesday in the concentration called in front of the European Parliament headquarters in Brussels. The PP has called for mobilization starting at 12:00 hours on the stairs of the main entrance of the European Parliament, in Luxembourg Square, in the Simone Veil esplanade.
Later, at 20:00 hours, the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) has promoted a concentration in front of the town halls across the country. The call has the support of the PP and Vox, while PSOE, Adelante Andalucía, Izquierda Unida (IU), Sumar, and Podemos have announced that they will not join and have expressed their rejection.
The first vice president and counselor of the Presidency, Health, and Emergencies, Antonio Sanz, will attend the planned protest in front of the City Hall of Seville, accompanied by the second vice president and counselor of Tourism, Justice, Deregulation, and Local Administration, Manuel Gavira.
The counselor of University, Industry, Energy, and Innovation, Jorge Paradela, and the counselor of Culture, Historical Heritage, and Sport, Patricia del Pozo, will also travel to the concentration in the Andalusian capital. For her part, the third vice president, counselor of Economy, Finance, and European Funds, and spokesperson for the Andalusian Government, Carolina España, will participate in the event called in Málaga along with the counselor of Employment, Business, and Self-Employment, Rocío Blanco, and the counselor of Development and Mobility, Mario Muñoz-Atanet.
In parallel, the counselor of Social Services, Families and Equality, Loles López, will attend the concentration set before the City Hall of Huelva. According to what Europa Press has confirmed, the mayors of seven of the eight provincial capitals of Andalusia, all governed by the PP, plan to attend the calls organized in their respective councils. The only one who has distanced himself is the mayor of Jaén, Julio Millán (PSOE), who has refused to join because "he does not have the consensus of the political forces."
Millán has insisted that in the City Hall of Jaén he has not received "in any place, neither at the level of personal email, nor of the City Hall email, nor of municipal registry," "any type of document" sent by the FEMP regarding this call. At the same time, he has conveyed "all the support" of the city to the president of Ceuta in light of the crisis experienced in the last month and has demanded that it not be used "by any institution, by any political group to confront Spaniards."
On the other hand, the president of the FEMP and mayor of Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz), María José García-Pelayo, has defended that the initiative "is not a political issue" and has accused leftist formations of "creating a ridiculous debate." In response to the criticisms regarding "the lack of consensus" around the call, García-Pelayo has pointed out that she "found it unnecessary to lift the phone" to consult the different groups, understanding that it is a "matter of humanity and common sense."
