The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, has come out in defense of the "cleanliness" of the electoral advance announced this Monday by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and has criticized the PP, which he has described as a "deeply amateur party" for understanding that the call has "caught them completely off guard".

"Whoever is not prepared for this kind of thing, how are they going to be prepared to govern a country?" Puente posed in a video shared on his social networks and reported by Europa Press, in which he questioned the appearance of the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, for offering a "poor message" and an "atmosphere" of "wake". In his opinion, the reaction of the popular party shows that "it has caught them completely off guard" or that they do not "really want them, despite asking for them". "And it is a deeply amateur party," he emphasized.

The minister has also attributed the PP's response to the discomfort generated by Sánchez setting the date for the elections "at a time that suits him". He recalled that "calling elections is a prerogative of the President of the Government" and emphasized that "they would not expect him to call them when it suited them".

Puente has also supported the decision of the head of the Executive by stating that, from a democratic point of view, the call is of "absolutely undeniable cleanliness", as he considers it essential to return to the polls after the parliamentary rejection of the housing decrees last Friday.

"If you have a Parliament that has systematically voted against everything that has been proposed regarding housing, and you also have a series of autonomous communities that refuse to apply the measures that do pass the filter of Parliament, it is evident that you have a problem that can only be solved at the polls," he argued. In this context, he defended that the housing access crisis must be addressed with a "powerful" public housing stock that can "influence" prices and through regulatory changes, although he warned that "without the autonomous communities and without Parliament, nothing can be done".

Appeal to progressive voting

At another moment of his intervention, Puente has expressly addressed the progressive electorate to ask for their mobilization. After reviewing some of the measures promoted by Sánchez's Government in recent years in terms of equality, international politics, and social policies, he has warned of the "threat" that, in his opinion, the advance of the right represents and has emphasized that "getting involved is more necessary than ever."

"With whatever enthusiasm it may be, with whatever conviction it may be, but this is the moment when we cannot fail, because everything that is at stake is to continue advancing instead of going backward, which is what a government of the Popular Party and Vox would lead us to," he concluded.
