The general coordinator of Movimiento Sumar and spokesperson in Congress, Verónica Martínez Barbero, has urged the Government to urgently summon the Moroccan ambassador in Spain, Karima Benyaich, to ask for explanations in case the police report attributing the massive entry of migrants in Ceuta at the end of July to the Moroccan security forces is confirmed.
In addition, she has warned the socialist sector of the Executive that "continuing to say that Morocco had nothing to do" with the crisis in Ceuta is becoming "increasingly difficult" and has demanded "clarity and transparency" regarding that document.
In statements sent to the media, she pointed out that it is especially serious that the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande Marlaska, was not aware of the content of the report and defended that, in that scenario, political responsibilities should be assumed.
"If that information was not transmitted to the Ministry of the Interior, responsibilities must be clarified, because it is something very serious," Martínez Barbero emphasized.
The spokesperson for Sumar in Congress added that her parliamentary group needs to know the "complete content" of the report, which has only been partially leaked to the press, and insisted that the Interior must provide "all necessary explanations."
At the same time, the deputy spokesperson for Sumar and deputy of Compromís, Alberto Ibáñez, has registered in the Lower House a request to obtain the aforementioned police report that points to the Moroccan Security Forces as responsible for the massive entry of migrants on July 30 and 31.
Sumar demands access to the report and to Marlaska's letter
In a letter addressed to the Table of Congress, which Europa Press has accessed, Ibáñez requests to be able to consult that document and also the letter from the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, in which he asks the Director General of the Police, Francisco Pardo, to confirm to him "as soon as possible" the content of the report.
Ibáñez emphasizes in his request the "great relevance" of that police text, as it points to the responsibility of Morocco, and specifically of its security forces, in the "hybrid attack" suffered by the autonomous city.
Through the social network 'X', the deputy of Compromís has argued that, in light of that report, either the Police "is hiding information" from its superiors or Marlaska "has lied."
"There are two options: the Police is hiding information from the 'superior command of the State Security Forces and Corps' or the Minister of the Interior has lied," he emphasized.
Leaders of Sumar point to Morocco's responsibility
In parallel, the federal coordinator of Izquierda Unida (IU), Antonio Maíllo, has stressed that the police report would support his position that it is "evident" the "connection" of Morocco with this crisis.
He has also warned that the Government faces a serious problem if the Interior Minister was unaware of the content of the document, something that, in his opinion, should translate into dismissals or assumption of responsibilities.
On the other hand, the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, has opted for caution, although he has reiterated that it is evident that Morocco has responsibility for "action or omission" in what happened. In the same vein, the Minister of Health, Mónica García, has insisted that it is essential to demand explanations from the neighboring country.
