The Minister of Territorial Policy and "single command" in Ceuta, Ángel Víctor Torres, has argued that the implementation of this device, 25 days after the massive entry of migrants into the autonomous city, responds to a "second phase" within the set of actions promoted by the Government to address the migration crisis.
As he detailed, the meeting of the Monitoring Committee held this Wednesday in Ceuta aimed to evaluate the measures applied so far and specify the steps to be taken in this new stage, in which the creation of the "single command" is situated.
"In this body, all the ministers have reviewed, as well as the Government of Ceuta, the actions taken and also the proposals," Torres indicated, who included among the latter the implementation of the "single command," a tool that, he emphasized, facilitates the distribution of "shared responsibilities" among the different administrations involved.
When questioned about the 25-day delay in the constitution of this body, the minister referred to the management of the situation generated by the dana in Valencia as a reference, where, as he recalled, "many prior actions" were also carried out before formalizing the coordination mechanisms.
"We did many prior actions until the Joint Commission was constituted and worked, I believe well, with the mayors, with the groups, with the experts," Torres pointed out, establishing the parallelism with what has happened now in Ceuta.
In this line, he recalled that on July 30 and 31, more than 70,000 people arrived in Ceuta and highlighted that in the first 48 hours, between 90 and 95% of them managed to return to Morocco, an intervention that he defined as a "success."
