The Minister of Culture and number 2 of Comuns-Front Ampli for Barcelona in the general elections, Ernest Urtasun, has emphasized that in these elections they are clear about who they are facing, alluding to the statements of the ERC candidate, Gabriel Rufián, and the Podemos leader, Irene Montero, about the Frente Amplio.
"We will not make a mistake about the opponent in these elections. We are running in these elections to achieve the best result to prevent PP-Vox from reaching the Government," he stated this Monday at a press conference, after the criticisms from Rufián and Montero towards the Frente Amplio this Saturday.
"We will not make a mistake about the opponent nor will we dedicate our time to opining about other political formations," he insisted, also responding to those who argue that the Frente Amplio resembles the PSOE too much, reminding that formations like ERC have been key partners of the central Executive.
Urtasun has highlighted that his goal is to value the advances achieved by his political space in the Government during the last legislature: "This is the banner with which we present ourselves for the elections. The other political offers will explain what they have to offer."
Candidacies and strategy throughout the State
The leader of Comuns-Front Ampli has also referred to the possibility that PP and Vox study cooperation formulas in the Senate, such as not running in certain constituencies to try to maintain the majority in the Upper House. In his view, this maneuver shows that "they are starting to get nervous."
Regarding the hypothesis that the Frente Amplio and the PSOE could explore similar agreements for Congress, he has rejected it again: "In Congress, the Frente Amplio is out to win and to battle for the seats throughout Spain," he emphasized, convinced that a solid result from his candidacy will be key to sustaining a progressive majority on November 29.
In this line, he has defended that the campaign is starting to shift and that this is due to the emergence of the Frente Amplio, which, he has highlighted, is growing "in all the polls" and contributes to activating the progressive vote as a whole.
Alert about the privatization of public companies
Urtasun has also warned of the risk that a possible PP government with Vox will promote the privatization of companies with state participation, citing Red Eléctrica as an example. He has guaranteed that his space will oppose any attempt in that direction: "We will oppose this attempt to privatize companies that should be in public hands."
He has maintained that the public sector has become the "last business niche for speculators," and has linked the plans for the privatization of public capital with possible cuts in pensions and with tax reforms aimed at favoring large incomes.
