Javier Ruiz leaves RTVE. The Valencian journalist will present this Friday, August 7, his last program at the helm of "Mañaneros 360", a space he leads together with Adela González, and will leave public television to become editorial director of La Séptima, the new television channel that is scheduled to start broadcasting on November 5.
The journalist's departure is not limited to a change of channel. His exit has caused a domino effect on RTVE's schedule for the upcoming season, with movements affecting some of the main faces of the public corporation's current affairs magazines.
Where Javier Ruiz is going after leaving RTVE
Javier Ruiz's next destination will be La Séptima, where he will assume the editorial direction. The new television is set to begin broadcasting on November 5 and counts among its main promoters José Manuel Contreras.
The incorporation ends several weeks of information about the journalist's professional future. Contreras had already publicly acknowledged the interest in having him and explained that Ruiz was related to the idea from the project's early steps.
"Together we dreamed of the possibility of making it happen. Then he went to Televisión Española, and he always left with the idea that if one day what we have dreamed of becomes a reality, I want to be there," said Contreras, according to statements to EFE.
Ruiz, at 52 years old, thus leaves RTVE after having become one of the main faces of its mornings during the last season.
Jesús Cintora will replace Javier Ruiz on "Mañaneros 360"
The main movement caused by his departure affects precisely "Mañaneros 360". Jesús Cintora will take over from September the position left by Javier Ruiz and will share the program with Adela González. Miriam Moreno will also continue in the space.
Cintora thus leaves "Malas lenguas", another of the formats that have gained prominence in RTVE's current programming.
The reorganization does not end there. Gonzalo Miró will definitely move to "Malas lenguas", in whose segment on La 2 focused on politics he will be accompanied by Esther Palomera.
Gonzalo Miró, Marta Flich, and Martín Barreiro: this is how the presenter shuffle looks
Miró's movement leaves a gap in "Directo al grano", a program he co-presented until now with Marta Flich.
RTVE will also reorganize this space: Marta Flich will continue at the helm and will be accompanied by Martín Barreiro.
The new scheme leaves, therefore, several chained changes for the next season: Javier Ruiz leaves "Mañaneros 360"; Jesús Cintora moves from "Malas lenguas" to the morning show; Gonzalo Miró joins "Malas lenguas"; and Martín Barreiro enters "Directo al grano" alongside Marta Flich.
Javier Ruiz leaves "Mañaneros 360" after leading it
The departure occurs after a particularly positive season in terms of audience for the program.
Javier Ruiz joined "Mañaneros 360" in May 2025, when the space modified its approach to reinforce the weight of political information and current affairs analysis and reduce content linked to gossip.
The original format of "Mañaneros" had begun in September 2023 with Jaime Cantizano. Adela González took the reins in the summer of 2024 and, with Ruiz's incorporation in May 2025, it was renamed "Mañaneros 360".
Since then, the program went from hovering around an 8% audience share to practically doubling that figure.
"Mañaneros 360" ended the 2025-2026 season as the leader of its time slot with a 15.9% average share, according to data from RTVE. The corporation highlighted that La 1 had not reached a figure like that in that time slot since the 2006-2007 season.
The second segment of the space recorded an 11.6% average share, its best result in a decade.
The trajectory of Javier Ruiz before RTVE
The career of Javier Ruiz has been linked for decades to economic, political, and television journalism.
The journalist worked at COPE, "El Mundo," and Cadena SER, where he served as a correspondent in New York and became head of the news department. He later developed much of his television career at Cuatro and CNN+.
In 2015, he took on the direction and presentation of "Las mañanas de Cuatro," a responsibility he combined with his work at Cadena SER, where he was in charge of "Hora 25 de los Negocios."
His arrival at RTVE occurred in September 2021 to take charge of "Las claves del siglo XXI." He then continued as a collaborator of the corporation until becoming the main presenter of "Mañaneros 360" in 2025.
The report on "Mañaneros 360" and "Malas lenguas"
Ruiz's stage at RTVE was also marked by controversy over the neutrality of some of its programs.
The TVE News Council conducted an internal investigation into "Mañaneros 360" and "Malas lenguas" that resulted in a 144-page report known in January 2026.
The document stated that both spaces repeatedly violated some of the fundamental rules for the preparation of information in RTVE and questioned the role of its presenters, including Javier Ruiz, Adela González, and Jesús Cintora, for considering that there was "bias".
The management of TVE later responded with a counter-report that demanded to support the conclusions with "verifiable facts". The Council of Informative later agreed to clarify certain aspects of its document, although it defended that the investigation had originated from numerous complaints from professionals.
The departure of Javier Ruiz now opens a new stage for both "Mañaneros 360" and for the rest of RTVE's magazines, while La Séptima incorporates one of the journalists who has gained the most prominence in public television during the last season.
