The Gijón restaurant La Montera Picona has won at auction the best cheese of the Cabrales Cheese Contest, held this Sunday in Arenas de Cabrales, after bidding up to 37,500 euros for the winning piece.

The establishment in Gijón has thus acquired a cheese made by the Quesería Angel Díaz Herrero, from Tielve, a piece weighing two kilograms and nine months of aging in the cave Los Mazos, located at 1,500 meters above sea level.

Sources from the organization have indicated to Europa Press that with this bid La Montera Picona achieves a new Guinness World Record, as the previous record was set at 37,000 euros.

In addition, the restaurant's managers have decided to share the exclusive Cabrales acquired with three cider houses in Madrid: Lo de Viole, Carlos Tartiere, and Sidrería La Cuenca.
