The Minister of the Sea, Marta Villaverde, has assured that the report being used by the platforms opposed to the Touro mine "is far from" the document being prepared by the Xunta de Galicia.
During the plenary session of Parliament, the BNG deputy Rosana Pérez presented the report of "a technician from the General Directorate of Fishing" warning of the possible impact of mining exploitation on the Ulla River and the Arousa estuary. The nationalist parliamentarian joked by pointing out that, for the Xunta, technicians are "sacred unless they say what the Xunta does not want them to say."
In response, the minister emphasized that this document "is not rigorous, verifiable, or accredited." She adds that "it is not from the Ministry, it has no date, signature, nor does it identify who could have prepared it."
For this reason, Villaverde demands that attention be paid to the "official documentation" and to the "verified" technical reports and data. "Of course, it is not the report from the Ministry of the Sea," she insists, as it "is far from" the text that her department handles.
Even so, the head of the Sea emphasizes that the mining project "will only be authorized if it is fully viable from a technical and environmental point of view." In addition, she reminds that the file is still in the processing phase, so "it cannot be considered authorized nor can it be said that it will be discarded."
