The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, has explained that, in relation to the interventions driven by the central Government and by the department he heads, some of the repairs resulting from the dana of October 29, 2024, which caused 234 fatalities in the province of Valencia, could extend "at least" for another year.
"There is still, evidently, at least work, experts tell me, for up to 12 more months of action in relation to the repairs," he stated in declarations to the media, in which he highlighted the measures of the Ministry and made an assessment of what has been done so far. These statements come after last week marked two years since the floods that affected the Comunitat Valenciana and "in other places in Spain".
The minister spoke in these terms after visiting this Monday several agricultural farms in Pego (Alicante) damaged by the recent dana Adam. Also present on this visit were the new Government delegate in the Comunitat Valenciana, Roger Llanes, and the mayor of the town in the Marina Alta, Enrique Moll.
Regarding the October 2024 storm, Planas recalled that "we have carried out from the Ministry very important actions for a sector very affected, as was the agricultural sector", and specified: "We have paid aid to farmers and livestock breeders amounting to 177 million euros and we have already carried out actions both for farms and for affected irrigation infrastructures as well as for rural roads amounting to 242.7 million euros".
The Agriculture official also pointed out: "We still have work to do, because, as you know, we gave those affected the option either to do it and collect compensation or else wait for an action to be carried out by the Government of Spain through the public company Tragsa. Many people chose this second option".
Planas stressed that "we have had great collaboration from local companies here in the Comunitat Valenciana, but the damage produced was so great, logically, that we have taken time and there is still, evidently, at least work, experts tell me, for up to 12 more months of action in relation to the repairs".
