Asaja, COAG and Unión de Uniones have decided to cancel the tractor protest and the demonstration of farmers and ranchers planned for this Wednesday in Madrid as a result of the serious railway accident recorded in Toledo, in which dozens of deaths have occurred.
For this day, the arrival in the capital of thousands of farmers and ranchers was expected, accompanied by hundreds of tractors coming from numerous points in Spain, with the intention of filling the Madrid streets and demanding urgent measures that ensure the economic viability and future of the agricultural sector.
Under the call of Asaja, COAG and Unión de Uniones, the tractors had begun to circulate from early in the day organized in five columns —coming from Torrejón de la Calzada, Guadalajara, El Espinar, Buitrago del Lozoya and Arganda del Rey— to denounce the increase in production costs, the low profitability of farms and "the threats that compromise the future" of agriculture and livestock farming.
However, after the accident between a Renfe train and another from Iryo in the province of Toledo, which has caused at least 30 deaths, the convening organizations have opted to postpone the mobilization and observe five minutes of silence in memory of the victims of the accident.
