The Ministry of Agriculture of the Generalitat has notified the appearance of 9 new positive cases of African swine fever (ASF) in wild boars located entirely within the high-risk area of Collserola. The cases are distributed among Sant Cugat del Vallès (1), Sant Quirze del Vallès (1), Cerdanyola del Vallès (2), Molins de Rei (4), and Barcelona (1).
The Department emphasizes in a statement released this Thursday that none of these new positives correspond to specimens that have recently died.
During the last week, 308 wild boars have been captured within the restricted area —which includes both the high-risk and low-risk zones— thanks to the joint action of the bodies dependent on the Ministry of Interior and Public Security (Agents Rurals and Mossos d'Esquadra), the hunting societies, the Special Group for the Prevention of Forest Fires (GEPIF), and the hunting control teams of Tragsa.
To date, the total number of wild boars captured in the infected area amounts to 13,684, while the Government maintains an active specific device for the eradication of the disease, equipped with material resources and specialized personnel.
With the aim of maximizing the capture of wild boars in the high-risk area, 34 individual traps and 93 pig brigs (collective traps) have been placed. In addition, to prevent the entry or exit of animals from the restricted areas, 351 perimeter closures have been carried out.
