Is it necessary to pay for the blue zone or the green zone of Barcelona this Friday, September 11? The answer depends on where you park.
The Diada is a holiday in Catalonia and the ordinary regulation of many AREA spaces is linked to working days. However, Barcelona has special zones that require payment even on holidays, so it is not advisable to assume that parking will be free throughout the city.
Blue zone: what happens on holidays
Generally, the schedule for the Blue AREA is from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
In certain areas, the regulation period is extended, for example, on Saturdays in the center of Barcelona or Sundays and holidays in the beach area.
Therefore, this Friday a single rule cannot be applied to all blue spaces.
At the beaches, payment is required
The clearest exception affects the Blue AREA spaces located in the beach area of the Sant Martí district.
During the 2026 season, which remains active until September 30, these spaces are regulated from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, from Monday to Sunday and also on holidays.
This means that on September 11 it will be necessary to obtain a ticket in those spaces during the regulated hours.
And what about the green zone?
The Green AREA operates, as a general rule, from Monday to Friday.
For residents, the usual schedule is from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. For non-residents, it can operate from Monday to Friday or from Monday to Saturday and reach in some sectors until 10:00 PM.
The AREA itself warns that the vertical sign of each section should always be checked, as there may be specific conditions.

The fact that September 11 is a holiday does not guarantee that all blue or green spaces are free.
Before parking, you must check the street sign or the SMOU application. Especially in the coastal area, regulated parking continues to operate during the Diada.
