The general secretary of the PSdeG, José Ramón Gómez Besteiro, has claimed this Thursday in Lugo the right to freedom of expression and protest against the "fascist policies represented by VOX," although he has emphasized that he "does not share" any type of violent act, "regardless of where it comes from."

These statements come after the incidents recorded on Wednesday in A Coruña during the visit of the leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal, which led to disturbances in the vicinity of the event.

Questioned about the criticisms of the police action and the demands for the resignation of the Government delegate in Galicia, Besteiro has emphasized that these are different debates. "One thing has nothing to do with the other," he pointed out, stressing that he totally rejects violent behaviors, "regardless of their origin."

The socialist leader has defended that the exercise of freedom of expression is compatible with a firm rejection of violence. Thus, he has said he feels aligned with those who gathered against Vox and its proposals, which he has labeled as "fascist and retrograde," but he has insisted that these positions "must be expressed peacefully."

"We can express ourselves without having violent behaviors," Besteiro has emphasized, insisting that he will not endorse "any type of violence." "Violence, regardless of where it comes from, we totally reject," he reiterated.

When specifically asked about what happened during the concentration, the general secretary of the PSdeG has pointed out that he was not present at the scene of the events and that, therefore, he cannot accurately assess a specific episode that he did not witness.

Besteiro has again focused on freedom of expression as "a right that should not be limited" and has emphasized that its defense is not confined only to those who share his political views, but also to those who hold divergent opinions.

As he has indicated, there were people from different social and political backgrounds at the mobilization, and the rejection of Vox's policies was a stance "that was shared." However, he has reiterated that this opposition must be maintained "apart from any violent behavior," always preserving the peaceful route.
