The unitary candidacy Senate of Progress, made up of PSOE and Frente Amplio (IU and Movimiento Sumar), has formalized before the Provincial Electoral Board its list for the Senate for León for the general elections on the upcoming November 29, with the intention of uniting progressive forces and achieving a majority that allows for progress towards a country with more rights, more equality, and more opportunities.

By virtue of this pact, the PSOE of León has given Frente Amplio the second place on the candidacy for the Upper Chamber, which will be occupied by Laura Fernández Bermejo, as a demonstration of the willingness to collaborate between progressive formations and to participate in the event with a common project. According to what PSOE has emphasized in a note released by Europa Press, the coalition Senate of Progress places at the core of its proposal the defense of the interests of the citizenry and the design of a better future.

"These elections place us before two models: advancing in rights, strengthening public services, and protecting people, or taking steps back with the austerity policies represented by the PP and Vox," pointed out the general secretary of PSOE of León, Javier Alfonso Cendón.

Cendón has highlighted the project led by Pedro Sánchez and the convenience of continuing to strengthen Social Security, pensions, labor rights, and the welfare state. "We cannot take for granted rights that have cost years of struggle. We must protect and expand them, because behind every social advance there are thousands of people and families who live better," he stated.

The head of the Senate list, Salvador Vidal, has emphasized the importance of having an Upper Chamber that promotes the progress of the country, safeguards social advances, and contributes to a more just and equal society. "We bet on useful politics, coexistence, and the guarantee of rights, with special attention to the needs of the territories and the people," he insisted.

With this approach, the PSOE of León faces the campaign from unity and shared effort, with the purpose of bringing the Senate of Progress project closer to all municipalities in the province and emphasizing the need to gather support to build a country "with more opportunities, social cohesion, and future."

"AGAINST THE CUTS OF PP AND VOX"

The PSOE of León maintains that the Senate must play a decisive role in defending social rights, equality, and public services "against the cuts of PP and Vox." "Against those who propose cuts and question rights, we need a majority that defends dignified pensions, salaries, public health and education, and equality," declared Cendón.

In this line, he emphasized that political action must serve to solve the everyday problems of the population and not to "put at risk the achievements that guarantee a more dignified life." The socialist leader stressed that the alliance between the PSOE and Frente Amplio makes it possible to run with a shared objective: to protect the interests of the citizens and continue advancing towards a country with more opportunities.

"THE FUTURE THAT LEÓN DESERVES"

"Progressive unity is fundamental for advances to reach all people and all territories. We want a Senate that contributes to improving people's lives and building the future that León deserves," he added.

At the registration event for the Senate list, in addition to the heads of the lists for Congress and the Senate, the member of the candidacy for Congress Manuel Mesa; the representatives of the PSOE of León before the Electoral Board, José Pellitero and Katia Badeso; the member of the Senate list and coordinator of IU in León, Sergio Carro, and Rubén Estévez, secretary of Organization of IU in León, attended.

Thus, the Senate list of Progreso for the Senate from León is formed with Salvador Vidal Varela as number one, accompanied by María Begoña Bermúdez Riera and Ángel Rodríguez Liébana as substitutes; Laura Fernández Bermejo in the second position, with Sergio Carro Fernández and María Aurora Panizo Luengo as substitutes, and Manuel Alfonso González in the third place, with Silvia María Cao Fornís and Gabriel Folgado Álvarez as substitutes.
