The national spokesperson of the BNG, Ana Pontón, has called for a "thorough investigation, to the very end" to clarify the causes of the Urda railway accident (Toledo), insisting that it "not be closed prematurely," unlike what, in her opinion, happened with the Angrois disaster, in Santiago, where in 2013 a train derailed causing 80 deaths.

In a press appearance this Thursday, the nationalist leader has underscored that "this is not about a minister or a government, this is about guaranteeing safe infrastructure and that accidents of this magnitude do not happen again," calling for responsibilities to be assigned "no matter who falls" and for "all, all" necessary measures to be adopted to prevent similar tragedies from happening again.

Pontón has defended that this is "the best way to honor the victims," to whom she has conveyed her support and affection, extending it to their families and closest circle. Likewise, she has recognized the work of the emergency services and medical personnel, whose work she has described as "exemplary and extraordinary".

The BNG leader has also highlighted the "solidarity" shown by the public, which, she said, is the "same" that was experienced in Angrois. From that accident she has drawn as a lesson that it is "essential and even a moral imperative" to guarantee victims and their loved ones "justice, truth and reparation".

At this point, she has lamented that "we say with sadness that with Angrois this debt was never settled because neither the government of the Partido Popular first nor the government of the Partido Socialista later allowed it to be settled." In the next breath, she referred to the current president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, of whom she has said that "as president of the Xunta he did everything in his power to prevent it".

She has recalled that the PPdeG, with Feijóo at the head of the regional government, voted on four occasions against the creation of a commission of inquiry in the Galician Parliament. For this reason, she reproached him for saying on Wednesday that "Spain deserves to know": "Galicia also deserved to know and Feijóo did everything possible to prevent it".

Asks not to repeat Angrois's "same mistakes"

Pontón has demanded that, in relation to the Toledo accident, "the same mistakes" that were made in the Angrois case "not be committed". Among them, she has pointed out the need to prevent an "unjustified closing" of the inquiries: "It would be making the victims of the Toledo accident go through the ordeal that the families of the Angrois accident had to go through 13 years ago".

For this reason, she has insisted that "we ask that it be investigated to the very last consequences with rigor and with independence what the causes of the accident were and that all, all the necessary measures be taken so that we never again see a tragedy of this magnitude and guarantee safety when we travel by train throughout the Spanish State".
