The Urda (Toledo) railway accident, in which at least 68 people have died after the collision of two high-speed trains, shocked Spanish politics and altered the activity of the parties. The leaders conveyed their condolences to the victims and their families, while emergency teams worked in the area and efforts were made to clarify what had happened.
The tragedy paralyzed much of the political agenda. PSOE, PP and other parties suspended their planned events, as did the Government, and Pedro Sánchez went to the scene of the accident. Vox was the exception: Santiago Abascal kept his pre-campaign commitments and argued that mourning should not prevent political complaints about the state of the infrastructure.
In parallel, the political representatives conveyed their reactions on social media. But, beyond the content of each message, which ones have managed to generate the most resonance? The Poder Digital ranking makes it possible to check which publications have accumulated the most interactions in the last 30 hours and who is achieving the greatest digital reach.
The messages that accumulate the most interactions
The post that leads the ranking is a message from Santiago Abascal on X, with 65,445 interactions. The leader of Vox expresses his condolences to the relatives of the deceased and his solidarity with the injured, before linking the tragedy with what he considers abandonment and deterioration of the infrastructure.
In second place is Alvise Pérez, with a post on Instagram that totals 61,942 interactions. The message, in a combative tone, calls for mobilization with the phrase "To hell with mourning. We have to FIGHT". The same post also appears among the top ten on TikTok, where it records 39,797 interactions.
The third place goes to Pedro Sánchez on TikTok, with 60,798 interactions. The Prime Minister conveys his condolences to the victims and their families and recognizes the work of the emergency services. A version of the same message on Instagram reaches 53,949 interactions.
Sánchez appears in four of the top ten positions in the overall ranking, although not all of his posts refer to the accident. In addition to the condolence messages, a post on X totals 52,849 interactions and highlights the contact with the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, and the president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, to follow the development of the emergency.
Abascal also appears in three positions of the ranking, with posts on X and Instagram. Apart from his main message, another piece of content on Instagram reaches 50,586 interactions, while a third post directed at the President of the Government and his team records 37,542.
What the Digital Power ranking measures
The ranking counts likes, comments, and the times a post is shared. Reproductions appear as additional data, but are not included in the total interactions. In the "All networks" section, the messages with the highest activity on X, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn are ordered, while each platform also has its own ranking.
The ranking includes the original posts of Spanish political profiles, also of regional representatives and MEPs, but excludes retweets, reposts, and responses. The figures reflect the moment when the ranking is calculated and can increase afterward. Therefore, they allow the impact of messages on social networks to be compared, but not electoral support or voting intention to be measured.
