The general secretary of UGT, Pepe Álvarez, has lashed out at the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, for "calling workers who are on medical leave freeloaders" and has urged him not to repeat this kind of label directed at those who are in temporary incapacity.
"What I hear from Mr. Feijóo is that we have to work more, that we are going to have great hardships and great suffering and that a large part of these people who are on medical leave because they cannot work are freeloaders," he lamented.
In Álvarez's view, if the 'popular' leader "thinks about this expression twice," "surely he will not use it again". "And I ask him not to do it again," he reiterated in statements to the media this Wednesday during some conferences held in Magaluf to call for the early retirement of chambermaids.
In response to Feijóo, the union leader stressed that employees who are on leave "are not freeloaders," but rather "are people who are sick and who have a doctor who gives them the leave."
