Ametic, the employers' association of the digital industry in Spain, has awarded the 2026 Digitalization Promotion Award to the Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts for its key role in the digital transformation of Justice.
The association has wanted to recognize the advances in the comprehensive modernization of the Administration of Justice thanks to the digitalization of procedures, the incorporation of automation and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, or the consolidation of the electronic judicial file.
At the same time, it has highlighted the Ministry's ability to articulate an exemplary model of public-private collaboration and to strengthen a digital transformation with tangible impact aligned with the current and future challenges of the judicial system.
The Secretary of State for Justice, Manuel Olmedo, collected the award this Monday in Santander during the 40th edition of the "Digital Economy and Telecommunications Meeting" of Ametic.
In his speech, Olmedo recalled that digitalization is the engine of the greatest transformation of Justice in decades, which includes a new, more modern and efficient organizational framework and procedural reforms to reduce the system's response time.
He also highlighted that this leap in digitalization, recognized internationally, has been possible thanks to the acquisition of 410 million euros from the NextGeneration funds, the allocation of an annual budget of more than 140 million euros, and collaboration with other administrations and with the industry.
The major milestone in this digitalization process is the approval of Royal Decree-Law 6/2023, which established a model of Justice based on electronic files, interoperability, data, and telematic communications and opened the doors to the incorporation of artificial intelligence and automation.
This determined commitment from the Government of Spain has received recognition from the European Union, which in both the EU Justice Scoreboard 2026 and the Rule of Law Report 2026, has rated our country as one of the most advanced in this field throughout the Union.
AI and robotization at the service of Justice
Among the digitization solutions driven by the Ministry, those based on artificial intelligence and robotization stand out, which allow for the automation of repetitive and low-value tasks, so that judges, prosecutors, lawyers, and other professionals can dedicate more time to those functions that require legal judgment and personalized attention.
An example is the automation of part of the processing of judicial debt collection procedures.
Thanks to this technology, the system has already automated 350,000 administrative tasks, speeding up the management of procedures for an amount exceeding 700 million euros.
The application of artificial intelligence, for its part, is allowing for the automatic classification of judicial documents, extracting the most relevant information from files, generating summaries, anonymizing personal data to protect privacy, transcribing audio or video recordings, or facilitating automatic translations during citizen assistance.
The Ministry also has other technological solutions such as Carpeta Justicia, an online platform that allows for consulting resolutions or checking the status of judicial files; LexNet, the electronic communication tool between courts and legal operators; DICIREG, which allows for processing Civil Registry files online; or the Interoperability Hub, which allows for the sending of electronic judicial files between different judicial bodies.
