The global head of Sustainability and Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) of BBVA, Javier Rodríguez Soler, will serve as co-chair of the Climate Finance and Investments working group of the business forum of COP31, according to the entity.

This group is born with the mission of analyzing the obstacles that hinder the mobilization of climate finance and formulating recommendations directed at the presidency of COP31. In his role as co-chair, Rodríguez Soler will lead the strategic direction and priorities of the group, energize the participation of its members, and coordinate the presentation of conclusions to the presidency of COP31 and other relevant actors.

"As a global bank of COP31, we will bring our experience in financing and support with concrete examples of solutions for our clients. We want to contribute to the dialogue between the public and private sectors and identify financial mechanisms that help mobilize capital towards the energy transition by turning climate ambition into action," Rodríguez Soler has stated.

The business forum of COP31 functions as a collaboration platform with the private sector, driven by the Union of Chambers and Exchanges of Turkey and aligned with the action agenda of the Climate Summit. This forum serves as a communication channel for the private sector with the presidency of COP31 and seeks to transform climate priorities into concrete proposals, business projects, and public policy initiatives.

The Climate Finance and Investments working group will focus its efforts on reducing risks to attract private capital, boosting carbon markets, and financing climate resilience, adaptation, and loss and damage.

The COP31 'Business Forum' is organized into seven working groups dedicated to industrial decarbonization; climate-resilient cities; electrification and energy transition; food and water security; climate finance and investments; climate technology and artificial intelligence; and small and medium enterprises and emerging economies.

BBVA announced on July 27 its participation as a global bank (Global Banking Partner) of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP31), which will take place from November 9 to 20 in the city of Antalya (Turkey). By virtue of this alliance, the bank will collaborate with the presidency of the summit and with the United Nations to continue promoting the financing of the energy transition and to accelerate the implementation of solutions that favor a lower carbon emission economy.
