The Minister of Housing and Urban Agenda, Isabel Rodríguez, has lashed out this Thursday against the statements of the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, regarding the occupation of homes, stating that "He has nothing to offer Spain in relation to this policy other than the hoax of 'pizza occupation', and this is very serious."
In a media briefing in Barcelona, accompanied by the first deputy secretary and spokesperson of the PSC, Lluïsa Moret, and the deputy mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Valls, Rodríguez reproached Feijóo for "lying to the citizens" regarding the housing issue, which she emphasized as one of the greatest concerns of the population.
She stressed that "In this country, there is no court or law enforcement agency that accepts a pizza ticket as evidence of anything," insisting that the current legislation protects both citizens and property owners against possible crimes of usurpation or trespassing.
Rodríguez expressed her concern because, in her opinion, Feijóo is fully aware that it is a hoax: "Of course he knows it, what he doesn't know is how to explain to the Spaniards why he refuses to support measures that are good for everyone, and we have seen this recently in Congress," she pointed out, referring to the decrees on housing.
The minister defended those decrees and assured that Feijóo "has said no" to builders, due to the VAT reductions contemplated in the regulation; to tenants, due to the tax deductions provided; and also to property owners, due to the bonuses proposed if they reduce the rent price for their tenants.
