One in four consumers in Spain plans to resort in September to some form of deferred payment system to cope with the typical increase in expenses of this month, according to a survey conducted by Aplazame.
Electronic devices rank as the category with the highest intention of installment payment, mentioned by 40.9% of the participants in the survey. Following them are school supplies, with 12.7%; training and tuition, with 10.8%; and fashion and footwear, with 9.8%. Travel or commuting accounts for 6.5% and sports items, 2%.
The main reason for opting for installment payments is "to better distribute expenses throughout the month," an option indicated by 39.9% of respondents. Next is "the possibility of handling high-value purchases," with 22%. Another 13.8% would use it to "take advantage of promotions or payment facilities"; 13.4%, to "cope with unforeseen expenses," and 9.5%, to "avoid reducing their savings."
According to the company's study, consumers lean towards these options because 63% of those surveyed perceive September as one of the months with the highest economic pressure on the family budget.
In detail, 40.3% expect to incur an additional expense in September of more than 500 euros: 27.4% estimate they will spend between 500 and 1,000 euros, while 12.9% expect to exceed that amount.
