Renfe has announced this Tuesday the start of the first interventions of the A Punto plan, an initiative aimed at modernizing and updating Cercanías and Ancho Métrico stations in different parts of Spain, with a planned global investment of 24.8 million euros.
This package of rapid and immediate impact actions will be carried out in 110 stations over 18 months, between 2026 and 2027, with a budget per project of between 100,000 and 500,000 euros and between 12 and 18 interventions in each territory, as detailed by the railway operator in a statement.
The first works of the A Punto plan, whose purpose is to curb the deterioration of stations and improve the quality of the traveler experience, are being developed in Galapagar-La Navata and Las Rozas (Madrid), Vilanova i la Geltrú and Sitges (Barcelona), Alzira (Valencia), and Avilés AC and Apeadero (Asturias).
The allocation, close to 25 million, is divided into seven territorial lots: Madrid and Barcelona concentrate the largest amounts, with 4.8 million euros each, while the rest of the budget is distributed among Andalusia, the East zone, the Basque Country, Asturias and Cantabria, and Galicia and the Northwest zone.
The deployment of the A Punto plan began on June 1st at the Galapagar-La Navata station, in the Community of Madrid, and continues this Tuesday in Las Rozas – with the integral renovation of the underpass and its accesses – and in Vilanova i la Geltrú – in the concourse, to renovate its spaces, improve accessibility, and modernize the facilities –.
In the Community of Madrid and Catalonia, actions are also planned in the stations of Pirámides and Nuevos Ministerios, on the one hand, and in the concourse of Sitges station (starting June 25th), on the other.
In the rest of the zones, the first works will be carried out in Alzira (Valencia), with work to update its spaces, improve accessibility, and renovate the building's image; in Balmaseda and La Herrera (Basque Country), with interventions in the concourse, platforms, exterior facade, lighting, and improvements to ramps and accesses; and in Plaza Mayor, Montemar Alto, and Torreblanca (Málaga Cercanías).
Likewise, actions will be taken in Avilés AC and Avilés Apeadero (Asturias), with the aim of improving the exterior image, renovating the concourse, reinforcing platform lighting, and conserving platform elements; and in O Alto do Castiñeiro and Santa Icía (Galicia), where canopy and lighting renovations will be undertaken, among others.
The A Punto plan allows for the identification, ordering, and programming of works that represent "significant improvements in the short term and a high return in the perception of service quality" by users, Renfe underlines.
